I haven't really had time to update this blog as often as I would like and there are a few things that I've been up to recently so I thought that an update would be in order.
First thing, As some of you know I have another sample pack done [Pack Two]. I finished the sample pack sometime last month but haven't got around to uploading it yet. So keep an eye out for that.
As always I've been working on some new music. I have uploaded a new track ["Out of sight"] to soundcloud and it's also on my myspace profile. Myspace Soundcloud
As well as working on my own music I have been asked by a friend to do a remix of one of his tracks [more news on that soon].
And last of all, I have recently been involved in a local radio station called "Varsity Radio". The station will be going live in January 2010. But there will be test broadcasts throughout this month [Dec]. I will hopefully be presenting a weekly show on electronic music sometime in the future.
I'm sure there's something I've missed but that's it for now. Hopefully I will be able to update this blog more frequently in the future.
Pack 2 demo by synthersizer-sounds PACK TWO is the second Sample libary I have uploaded to this blog [The first one was PACK ONE]. Like the first pack I started making these samples to use in my own music/projects.
I was supposed to upload these samples a while back but never got arround to it. Since then I've added a few more samples/loops and 2 combinator patches.
This PACK contains: 18 Loops 17 oneshot Hits/Samples [A total of 22 samples]
Also included is 2 combinator patches [For Propellerheads Reason]. DOWNLOAD AS .ZIP FILE
Since my last few posts I have had some new additions to my collection. First up is the Yamaha TX81Z FM Synthesizer, A nice 1-unit rack mount synthesizer from the late 80's with some stunning FM sounds [similar to the DX range].
I've had a good mess around with this synth but so far I have no recordings done with it [look out for some in the future though].
Also I have 2 new distortion stomp box's given to me. Another Boss-DS1 and a Danelectro D-3 fab metal pedal [which is quite good for some dirty LoFi sounds].
Also the other week I picked up one of the Reissue DubreqStylophones. It has a cool retro look and feel and a nice gritty LoFi sound. And on top of that it's really fun to play.
While messing around with the Stylophone and my old Casio CT-647 I made this quick/rough recording.
The track was put together in a few hours, writing the parts it as I went along. It is all recorded on my fostex D-80 digital multi track recorder. there is no complex mixing or mastering [it's done just as a demo for the sounds].
The drum sounds are all from a rhythm preset on the Casio CT-647. the organ/bass sound and the choir sounds are also from the Casio. All the rest of the sounds are ether setting 1 or 3 of the Stylophone. The extra effects [reverb and vibrato] Were added from the zoom G1 effects pedal.
The overall outcome of the track has a very LoFi and somewhat "cheesy" feel to it.

Right then, I entered the Hyundai 30Beats competition. The winner gets a brand new i30 car.
The aim of the competition was to takes the sounds made with the car and remix/make some music with them. In my entry [below] I have taken the samples of the car and made a drum beat then I added a bit of piano over the top.
The voting closes on the 31st of October '09 [Halloween] Please, if you have time vote for my on the 30Beats website [you can vote for the track once a day].
PACK ONE is the first of what I hope to be a series of free sample packs. I started out recording these loops for use in my own music but I think other people may enjoy using them too.
The PACK contains 39 bass loops and 32 drum loops [A total of 71 loops].
DRUM LOOPS The "Clean" Drum loops came from my Roland MC-303 [I used the Techno 2 kit]. Also the "Dirty" loops are the same loops but they have been run through the decimator effect on my Korg R3 to give them a Lo-Fi gritty sound.
BASS LOOPS The bass loops came from my FB-383 [TB-303 clone]. I used the Square wave setting and left the filter open so that it just left the raw wave. The 383 was sequenced by the Roland MC-303. Again I also sampled the same basslines running though the decimator on my R3, This has given them a harsh, buzzy, "dirty" sound.
Everything was sampled at 32KHz using a Zoom MRS2b 4-track.
If you find these sounds useful and have any comments/questions feel free to comment on the blog or talk to me on twitter.
I have uploaded A new track to soundcloud Called "Alive or just breathing". It's very Industrial sounding but also has a lot of influence from noise and glitch music. I've Been working on this track for about a week now and thought I'd share it, It's free to download [of course].
I Made the track usingpropellerheads reason, but it also contains reversed voice samples and some sounds from a few of my other synths/plugins.
Liable Mutt is the title of my new mini album which is available to download via this blog. You can download each track individually or the whole album as a .zip file.
The album is completely free which means you can take it, share it, give it away or do whatever you want with it.
About the album You have probably noticed the unusual track names, this is because they are all anagrams of themselves. For example the first track "Cake Torn" is an anagram of "Track one" and the title of the album "liable mutt" is an anagram of "album title".
Thanks to dave for helping out with the artwork for the album, you can find him on Twitter HERE or on Blogspot HERE
Production techniques I didn't want to use a lot of equipment while recording this album as I wanted it to have a raw minimal feel to it. The whole album was recorded on my Fostex D-80 8-track and mixed roughly with a basic Tapco 8 channel mixer. There was no computers involved in the production.
My Roland MC303 groovebox provided all drum and percussion sounds on the album, using mostly the 808 and 909 kits.
Most of the basslines were produced using my Freeform Analog Technologies FB383 [clone of the Roland TB303].
All other synth sounds came from my Korg Microkorg [apart from the strings on "Sax Trick" which came from the MC303].
For effects like reverb and distortion I used my korg Mini KP, Boss MD2 and Boss DS1.
Hope you enjoy listening to the album. You can find me on Twitter HERE or Myspace HERE
OK, I have named the mini album "Liable mutt". Why?...... It's an anagram for "Album Title". All the track names are anagrams too. Here's the track list:
1. Cake Torn [anagram for "Track one"] 2. Watt Cork [anagram for "Track two"] 3. Kart Etcher [anagram for "Track three"] 4. Croak Turf [anagram for "Track four"] 5. If Rack Vet [anagram for "Track five"] 6. Sax Trick [anagram for "Track six"] 7. Canker vest [anagram for "Track seven"] ......You get the picture.....
Dave is doing me some artwork for the album and should be ready soon so when I have it the tracks will be availible for free download on this blog.
The only instruments used were the Roland MC-303, F.A.T FB383 and Korg microkorg. I also used Boss MD-2 and DS2 distortion pedals and a Korg Mini-KP for reverb.
OK, today I layed down the second minimal track that will be on the forth coming minimal album. I have yet to think up names for all the tracks or the album itself but I'm looking for something unusual. I am only using sounds from the FB383, MC303 and Korgmicrokorg. So far the effects I have used are the Korg Mini KP and the Boss MD2 and I am using my Fostex D-80 to record everything. There will be no mastering and no over mixing on this album as I want the sounds to be raw and the feel of the album to be quite rough. My influences for this album include early 808 state, plasikman, aphex twin and venetian snares [among others] When the tracks are done they will be uploaded to soundcloud and will be freely available to download.
In other news, I've just have my 5th tattoo done. Its on the lower part of my right leg and its a group of musical notes. Here's A picture.
Drums/percussion - Roland Mc-303 Piano - Roland Mc-303 303 Bass - FAT Freebass FB383 (TB-303 clone) Simple raw pad - Korg Microkorg Extra synth hit - Reason NN-XT (Juno 60 multisample) Synth drone patch - Reason NN-XT(Juno 60 multisample) Vocal stutters - Alphebet samples!!?!?
The Mc-303, FB383 and Microkorg were originally recorded using a Zoom MRS-4b Multitrack and then imported into Propellerheads Reason using the NN-XT sampler. Then I added the extra parts to the track (Juno 60 parts & the vocal stutters).
The FB383 part Is run through the Scream distortion and the piano part is run through the DDL-1 delay (both in reason)
When I was happy with the track I did a bit of mixing and exported it.
In the last post I posted some audio from the Arturia Moog Modular. The audio clip was mostly drones and scifi noises so I thought that I would upload something a little more musical.
Along with the Moog I used a Pad sound from Waldorfs softwear version of the classic PPG wave digital synth.
The 909 kick drum is coming from a freeware rompler from DSK called mini DRUMZ 2. Other than that there is no other plug-ins/instruments/effects used. Everything is sequenced using Samplitude 10 LE.
The audio track is free to download from soundcloud
This is just me messing around with the synth, As you can probably tell I'm not that familiar with modular synths, as the demo is just mainly noisy, bleeping, messy sci-fi sounds.
The recording quality isn't brilliant as some points in the track go suddenly loud and sometimes clip/distort [The worst is at 3:56 and 5:12]. The synth its self has an amazing sound to it, just wish i could own the real thing.
Once i get used to using the modular I hope to upload more stuff using it, something more musical and easyer to listen to.
Right then, just started this new blog. I will post various things on here including a lot of my older music and projects along with other stuff I have been recently working on. I will upload links to Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter, vampirefreaks, Last.FM and myspace accounts. Basically anything on and off the net that I'm involved with.
Also lookout for links to friends projects for more music, art, video etc.
But until I upload all that stuff check me out on Twitter at; www.twitter.com/dan303 You can also keep up to date with the twitter widget in the upper right hand corner. This will display my 4 most recent tweets.
